So this weekend I played in my first NL Holdem' tourney at the Hollywood Park Casino (I've played cash games & online before, but never a brick-n-mortar casino tourney)
Guys were seriously intimidated by me. Definitely not because they expect to see me at the WSOP 2009 main events, or winning the next WPT...
So, the only logical conclusion would be because I'm Asian with an Australian accent, or maybe it was because I'm a girl (1 of 5 out of like 300 people). Whatever it was, I was making these boys sweat. And yes, they were a tad smelly...
For the next 2 hours -- I won a few, bluffed a few, and lost a few. All was well until I got moved to another table with this big creeper with a deep stack. Everything about him just, well, wasn't quite "right". He smelt like stale meat, his shirt was open enough to let his chest hair run wild like a beast. Every time I bet, call, raise or fold, he would make a snide comment. Nah-ah. Not cool.
Anyway, he raised pre-flop and I had pocket Jacks so I called. The flop came: 6, 7, and ace. He bet and I called. The turn card was a JACK :) I was doing my "happy dance" inside.
He then pushed me all in. I was certain I had the best hand...until the bloody river card came and it was a F*in 5! I couldn't believe he called all-in with 3-4 offsuit. Damn that 5. The Creeper made his gut shotstraight and I got knocked out :(
Of course, he went on & on, and acted like he was a big shark who simply "knew" that was gonna happen all-along. Bloody wanker.
Sorry. Excuse my language. Clearly, I'm still bummed about it.
Anyway. When the floor manager was walking me out he told me, "You clearly had the better hand, maybe this will make you feel better." I was hoping he's gonna waive my entry fee for the next tourney...
But nope, not quite. Instead, he handed me a cocktail napkin with his phone# on it. Ha. I added to the other 3 numbers I got that day. lol.
All in all a great experience but A BAD BEAT for sure!

Hey, sometimes river rats end up getting away with the cheese. It's just one setback in your journey in your poker vita ;-) Eventually, your bad beat will be overshadowed by the many good hands you will get as you play more.
